Students at Catholic Universities - new study

New study reported by National Catholic Register - http://www.ncregister.com/site/article/16432/

The survey’s findings also showed that the experience of attending a Catholic institution of higher education did not appear to increase Catholic faith and practice for most students.
57% said the experience of attending a Catholic college or university had no effect on their participation in Mass and the sacrament of reconciliation.
54% of respondents said that their experience of attending a Catholic college or university had no effect on their support for the teachings of the Catholic Church.
56% said their experience had no effect on their respect for the Pope and bishops.
Finally, the survey also found that 6% of students who were Catholic while in a Catholic college are not now Catholic. Only 1% who were not Catholic while at a Catholic college are today Catholic. According to the survey, “This net decline in Catholic self-identification suggests that very few convert to the Catholic faith after leaving college.”

A groundbreaking study of Catholic college students and recent alumni found:
Morality
60% say abortion should be legal.
60% say premarital sex is not a sin.
57% say same-sex “marriage” should be legal.
39% saw officials or staff encouraging contraceptive use.
31% saw officials or staff encouraging acceptance of homosexual activity.
Men vs. Women
50% of college women engage in premarital sex.
41% of college men engage in premarital sex.
23% of college women are drawn to the sacraments.
40% of college men are drawn to the sacraments.

Pastor:

I don't agree with the idea of discouraging the laity with those reports. After all, there are many priests who are drunks and sex addicts. There are priest whom I personally know throughout the Archdiocese who don't celebrate the Liturgy of the Hours or practice Christian charity. They need to be cleansed.

I pray Archbishop Naumann cracks the whip on many of them! Cut their salaries.

I would never send a son to the seminary. There are many odd-balls there.

Dear Rev:

Does Archbishop Naumann realize that people don't care about his homilies on pro-life issues!

Look the Priesthood of the Laity voted for Obama! They don't care about the Church. It is sad. What can we do? After all, there are many students at BC and KU who proclaim to be Catholic, attend youth events, and have sexual relatons. Its the truth ... you know, after all, you hear their confessions all the time!

We need help and guidance in this world. God Bless, a former Catholic and new Pastor of the Christian Faithful of Rhode Island

Padre Mitchell:

On behalf of a member, we, the Faithful Christians, apologize on his/her behalf. The comments posted were uncharitable and without reason. We are taking actions to resolve the issues.

Rest assured, the Faithful Christians, support all members of Christian Churches, especially the Christian communities in union with Rome!

Also, please note the individual who posted the uncharitable remarks is struggling with the Christian faith. The individual had bad meetings with priests in the past, which caused him to leave the Church.

We, the Faithful Christians, understand the priests are called to holiness, as well as every baptized individual. We are all called to the Universal Call to Holiness.

Thank-you for the blog, In Christ, the Faithful Christians.

Whoever is posting these comments obviously knows something about me or the St. Lawrence Center. I would be happy to hear from your personally rather than anonymously so we can have a more charitable conversation. Thank you for the encouragement to be a good priest - I will try and I do appreciate your prayers!
